Cornea and Refractive Surgery
Cornea and Refractive Surgery

Refractive surgery at Sharda Care - The Healthcity offers solutions for common vision problems like near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. These procedures aim to reshape the cornea or implant a lens in the eye, ultimately focusing light correctly on the retina for clearer vision.

Refractive errors are caused by irregularities in the shape of the cornea or abnormalities in eye length, causing blurred vision. The cornea, responsible for bending and focusing light waves, may not properly direct light onto the retina, resulting in blurred images. These errors can affect healthy eyes and manifest in four main types:

Near-sightedness (myopia): Close objects are clear, but distant ones are blurry due to the eye being too long or the cornea excessively curved, causing images to focus in front of the retina.

Far-sightedness (hyperopia): Distant objects are clear, but close ones are blurry because of a shorter eye or a too-flat cornea, causing images to focus behind the retina.

Astigmatism: Blurred vision at any distance results from irregularly shaped corneas, lenses, or both, preventing sharp focus on the retina.

Presbyopia: Commonly known as ageing eyes, this condition reduces the eye's ability to change focus due to age, typically occurring around ages 40-50. While refractive surgery can enhance distance vision, it may not fully address near-vision problems associated with presbyopia.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can harm the optic nerve, which is essential for good vision. This damage is often linked to high pressure in the eye, but it can also occur with normal eye pressure. While glaucoma can affect people of any age, it's more common in older adults and is a leading cause of blindness in those over 60. Many types of glaucoma don't show warning signs, and vision changes may not be noticeable until the condition is advanced.
For early diagnosis, it's important to get regular eye checks that include measuring eye pressure. If glaucoma is found early, steps can be taken to slow down or prevent vision loss. Treatment or ongoing monitoring is usually necessary for managing glaucoma throughout life.

Vitreo-Retinal Disease
Vitreo-Retinal Disease

At Sharda Care - The Healthcity, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with conditions affecting the retina and vitreous humour of the eye. Our specialized facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by experienced ophthalmologists who are committed to delivering personalized and comprehensive treatment for a wide range of retinal and vitreous disorders.

The retina is a delicate layer of tissue lining the back of the eye that is responsible for converting light into electrical signals, which are then transmitted to the brain, enabling vision. The vitreous humour is a gel-like substance that fills the space between the lens and the retina, providing support and nourishment to the retina.

Conditions affecting the retina and vitreous can have a significant impact on vision and overall eye health. These conditions may include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and vitreous floaters

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the eyes. It happens when the blood vessels in the retina, the part of the eye that senses light, get damaged.

In the beginning, diabetic retinopathy might not show any symptoms or cause only minor vision issues. But over time, it can lead to blindness. This condition can develop in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The longer someone has diabetes and the less control they have over their blood sugar levels, the higher the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy.

Cause When there's too much sugar in the blood over a long period, it can block the small blood vessels that feed the retina, causing them to stop working. As a result, the eye tries to grow new blood vessels to supply nutrients. However, these new blood vessels are fragile and prone to leaking or breaking.
